The certificate programme in Human Resource Management of the KDU will provide a rare opportunity for the participants to obtain a basic conceptual knowledge and practical understanding of Human Resource Management.
Moreover it is designed to ensure a high academic standard by a panel of senior academics and professionals from reputed Universities/ Institutions in Sri Lanka to facilitate participants to complete the certificate programme in six months while in service.
Lectures will be held in weekends at the KDU and the rest of the learning is through assignments/ practical work/ independent learning carried out at the participants' own convenience. The medium of instructions will be English.
Objectives
The main objective of this programme is to enhance and develop the knowledge of Officers, Warrant Officers, Senior Non Commissioned Officers, Public and Private sector officials in the respective services/field on Human Resource Management. In addition this programme will facilitate career progression.
Programme Structure
Candidates are required to earn 15 credits within six months to obtain the qualification of Certificate in Human Resource Management. Certificate programme in Human Resource Management will consist of eight (08) subject modules whose credit weight will vary from 1 to 2. A Credit is defined as having fifteen hours of interactive class room sessions and 30 – 45 hours of other time work including assignments.
Duration of the programme and Time available:
The duration of the Certificate in Human Resource Management programme will be six months and classes will be conducted on weekends other than public holidays. Total number of 24 weeks would be utilized to complete all modules within 6 months including examinations.
Requirements for the qualification:
Candidates of Certificate in Human Resource Management will have to complete 15 credits, follow 60 (sixty) percent of the lectures within six months and required to be without any violation of rules and regulations stipulated by the KDU on conduct and discipline.

Officers, Warrant Officers and Senior Non Commissioned Officers of the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Air Force and Sri Lanka Police, and members of the Public and Private sector with G C E Ordinary Level Examination qualification.

Intended Outcome and Expectations
Successful candidates of Certificate in Human Resource Management conducted by the Institute of Post Graduate Studies of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University will demonstrate knowledge and understanding on all aspects related to Human Resource Management and to apply knowledge in practical context in their respective military organizations or in any field as applicable.
