The Weekend English courses are conducted by the Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU), with the assistance of the Department of Languages. Currently, two certificate courses and a Diploma course are offered for Military Officers, NCOs and civil Staff serving in Military establishments. The courses provide an opportunity for participants to enhance their Language skills through interactive and communicative activities. The programme has earned recognition as the best English language programme conducted by a military establishment in Sri Lanka.
The two Certificate courses are conducted as 15 credit courses with 225 contact hours and the Diploma course is a 30 credit course 450 with contact hours in line with the Sri Lanka Qualification Frame work.

HOW TO APPLY
The officers and ORs should apply through respective Service Training Branches which nominate candidates. The KDU Civil Staff should apply through the Registrar - KDU. All applicants are required to pass a selection test conducted by the Department of Language, KDU, and they are placed in different course categories based on their performance at the test.
However, those who have successfully completed the Certificate I and II courses can seek direct enrolment to the certificate II and Diploma programmes respectively without facing selection test.
COURSE FEES
a. Certificate Part I (Elementary) - Rs 20,000.00
b. Certificate Part II (Pre Intermediate) - Rs 20,000.00
c. Diploma (Intermediate and Upper Intermediate) - Rs 53,000.00
The candidates selected through service Training Branch need to pay only 40% of the relevant course fee, the rest is paid by their respective services.
